Barcodes #

The Barcodes tool allows customers to generate and customize barcodes directly within the Design Studio. Barcodes are commonly used for product labels, inventory management, retail products, packaging, event tickets, identification cards, and logistics applications.

Instead of generating barcodes using external software, customers can create, customize, and position barcodes directly on their product design.

This guide explains how to configure the Barcodes tool and the available customization options in Product Designer App.

What Are Barcodes? #

A barcode is a machine-readable representation of data displayed as a series of lines, spaces, or patterns.

Barcodes can store information such as:

  • Product codes
  • SKU numbers
  • Inventory IDs
  • Order numbers
  • Serial numbers
  • Tracking numbers
  • Membership IDs
  • Ticket numbers
  • Custom text values

Barcode scanners can quickly read this information for identification and processing.

Enable the Barcodes Tool #

The Barcodes tool can be enabled or disabled for each Product Base.

Navigate to:

Product Base → Design Studio Settings → Tools

Enable Barcodes to display the Barcode panel inside the Design Studio.

If disabled, customers will not be able to create barcodes.

Add a Barcode #

Customers can generate a barcode by entering the desired value.

Examples include:

  • SKU-10001
  • ITEM-2025
  • 123456789012
  • TICKET-0001
  • MEMBER-9988

After entering the value, the barcode is generated automatically and inserted into the design.

Add Barcode to Design

Barcode Types #

Depending on your Product Designer App configuration, one or more barcode formats may be available.

Common barcode types include:

  • Code 128
  • Code 39
  • EAN-13
  • EAN-8
  • UPC-A
  • UPC-E
  • ITF
  • Codabar

Different barcode standards are suitable for different industries and applications.

Choose the barcode type that matches your operational requirements.

Edit Barcode Content #

Customers can modify barcode data at any time.

Examples include:

  • Changing a product code
  • Updating an inventory number
  • Replacing a serial number
  • Modifying ticket information

The barcode is automatically regenerated whenever the value changes.

Show Human Readable Text #

Most barcode formats can display the encoded value beneath the barcode.

This allows users to:

  • Read the barcode value manually

Depending on configuration, this text can be shown or hidden.

Barcode Colors #

Customers can customize the appearance of the barcode.

Available options may include:

Color changes are reflected immediately in the preview.

Recommended Barcode Colors #

For reliable scanning:

The Design Studio updates the preview instantly.

For optimal scanning performance, avoid reducing the barcode below the minimum recommended size.

Barcode does not appear #

Verify that:

  • The Barcodes tool is enabled.
  • Barcode data has been entered.
  • A supported barcode format is selected.
Barcode cannot be scanned #

Possible causes include:

  • Barcode is too small.
  • Poor color contrast.
  • Incorrect barcode format.
  • Graphics overlap the barcode.
  • Invalid barcode data.

Always test the barcode using the intended scanner before production.

Barcode looks blurry #
