Create Your First Product #
Getting your first customizable product online only takes a few steps. This guide walks you through the complete workflow, from creating a printing method to placing a test order and downloading the final print-ready file.
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- Product Designer App installed and activated.
- WooCommerce installed and configured.
- At least one WordPress product category (optional).
- Product images prepared (PNG with transparent background is recommended).
Estimated setup time: 15–30 minutes
Workflow Overview #
The typical setup process looks like this:
Create Printing Type
↓
Create Product Base
↓
Add Images & Design Areas
↓
Create WooCommerce Product
↓
Test in Design Studio
↓
Place Test Order
↓
Download Print Files
Each step only needs to be completed once for a product. After that, customers can begin customizing and purchasing it immediately.
Step 1. Create a Printing Type #
A Printing Type defines how your product will be printed and determines the print output settings.
Examples include:
- DTG (Direct to Garment)
- DTF
- Sublimation
- UV Printing
- Embroidery
- Laser Engraving
A Printing Type controls:
- Print resolution (DPI)
- Print file format
- Pricing rules
- Output settings
- Production configuration
👉 Continue with Create Printing Type.
Step 2. Create a Product Base #
The Product Base is the template used by one or many WooCommerce products.
It contains everything related to the printable product, including:
- Product views
- Colors
- Sizes
- Design areas
- Image layers
- Components
- Print settings
Think of the Product Base as the production template, while WooCommerce products are what customers purchase.
👉 Continue with Create Product Base.
Step 3. Add Images and Design Areas #
Now configure where customers can place their artwork.
Typical setup includes:
- Upload product mockup images
- Create front, back or side views
- Add printable design areas
- Configure printable size
- Upload masks and overlays (optional)
- Configure clipping and safe zones
A well-configured design area ensures customers can only design within printable boundaries.
👉 Continue with Add Images and Design Areas.
Step 4. Create a WooCommerce Product #
Once the Product Base is finished, connect it to WooCommerce.
Typical configuration includes:
- Create a Simple or Variable Product
- Enter product information
- Set pricing
- Assign categories
- Link the Product Base
- Publish the product
After publishing, customers will see the Customize button on the product page.
👉 Continue with Create WooCommerce Product.
Step 5. Test the Design Studio #
Before selling your product, test the complete customization workflow.
Recommended checklist:
- Open the Design Studio
- Upload an image
- Add text
- Change colors
- Switch product views
- Verify design boundaries
- Save the design
- Check price updates
- Add the product to the cart
This helps identify configuration issues before customers encounter them.
👉 Continue with Test Design Studio.
Step 6. Place a Test Order #
Complete a full purchase to verify the production workflow.
Check that:
- The customized design is saved correctly.
- Order information appears in WooCommerce.
- Customer preview images are generated.
- Design data is attached to the order.
- Production files are generated successfully.
Testing with a real order is highly recommended before launching your store.
👉 Continue with Place Test Order.
Step 7. Download the Print File #
After an order is placed, download the production-ready artwork.
Depending on your printing configuration, you can export formats such as:
- PNG
- SVG
Verify that:
- Artwork size is correct.
- Resolution matches your printing requirements.
- Transparency is preserved.
- Design positioning is accurate.
- Output quality meets production standards.
The generated print file is the final file used for manufacturing.
👉 Continue with Download Print File.
