Size Pricing #
Size Pricing allows you to automatically calculate printing costs based on the size of a customer’s design. Instead of charging a fixed price, the printing cost is calculated according to the total design area, making it ideal for printing methods where larger designs require more ink, material, or production time.
In Product Designer App, Size Pricing is configured using the Charges Per 1 cm² print attribute.
This pricing method can be applied to the entire design area or to specific design elements such as text, photos, clipart, QR codes, or barcodes. It can also be combined with other pricing methods, including color pricing, quantity discounts, side pricing, and additional print attributes.
When to Use Size Pricing #
Use Size Pricing when production costs increase as the printable design becomes larger.
Typical use cases include:
- UV Printing
- Vinyl Printing
- Large Format Printing
- Stickers
- Labels
- Heat Transfer
- Signage
- Decals
If your printing cost depends on the printed surface rather than a fixed setup fee, Size Pricing is the recommended pricing method.
Open Printing Type #
Navigate to:
WordPress Admin → Product Designer App → Printing Types
Create a new Printing Type or edit an existing one.
Within the pricing configuration, click Add Print Attribute.
A list of available pricing attributes will appear.
Select Charges Per 1 cm² #
Choose:Charges Per 1 cm²
This option calculates pricing based on the total printable area of the customer’s design.
Once selected, enter the price charged for each square centimeter.
For example:
Price per 1 cm²
$0.02
The system automatically multiplies the configured price by the calculated design area.
Apply Pricing to the Entire Design Area #
The most common configuration is to calculate pricing using the total printable area.
The system measures the combined design size inside the Design Area and calculates the total printed surface.
For example:
Customer design:
Width: 20 cm
Height: 10 cm
Printable area:
200 cm²
If the configured price is:
$0.02 per cm²
The additional printing cost becomes:
200 × $0.02 = $4.00
This method is recommended for most products where the total printed area determines production costs.
Apply Pricing to Individual Elements #
Instead of measuring the complete design, Size Pricing can be applied only to selected element types.
Supported elements include:
- Text
- Photo
- Clipart
- QR Code
- Barcode
For example:
You may choose to calculate printing costs only for:
- Photos
while ignoring:
- Text
- QR Codes
- Barcodes
Or calculate only the printable area occupied by text.
This provides greater flexibility for different printing processes.
Example 1 – Entire Design Area #
Configuration:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Print Attribute | Charges Per 1 cm² |
| Price | $0.03 per cm² |
| Apply To | Entire Design Area |
Customer design:
25 cm × 12 cm
Calculated area:
300 cm²
Additional printing cost:
300 × $0.03 = $9.00
Example 2 – Text Only #
Configuration:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Print Attribute | Charges Per 1 cm² |
| Apply To | Text |
Customer design contains:
- Large heading
- Company logo
- Product photo
Only the text area is included in the size calculation.
The logo and photo do not affect the printing cost.
Combine with Other Pricing Rules #
Size Pricing can be combined with all other Product Designer App pricing methods.
Examples include:
- Color Pricing
- Element Pricing
- Side Pricing
- Quantity Discounts
- Product Attributes
- Base Product Pricing
Example workflow:
Base Product Price
+
Size Pricing
+
Color Pricing
+
Front Side Price
-
Quantity Discount
=
Final Product Price
This combination allows you to accurately match your real production costs.
Combine with Multiple Printing Sides #
If your product contains multiple printable sides, each side can calculate its own printable area independently.
Example:
Front:
150 cm²
Back:
100 cm²
Each side calculates its own printing cost before being added to the final product price.
This is useful for products such as:
- T-shirts
- Hoodies
- Bags
- Packaging
- Promotional products
Combine with Quantity Discounts #
Quantity discounts can be applied after Size Pricing has been calculated.
Example:
Base Price
+
Size Price
+
Color Price
-
Quantity Discount
=
Final Price
This encourages larger orders while still reflecting the actual production cost of larger printed designs.
Best Practices #
For the most accurate pricing:
- Use Charges Per 1 cm² when printing costs depend on the printed surface.
- Apply pricing to the entire Design Area for most printing workflows.
- Apply pricing to individual elements only when specific object types affect production costs.
- Combine Size Pricing with Color Pricing for printing methods where both area and color count influence pricing.
- Use Quantity Discounts to encourage bulk purchases.
- Test different design sizes to verify pricing accuracy before publishing the product.
Properly configured Size Pricing ensures customers are charged according to the actual size of their printed design, creating a fair and flexible pricing model for a wide variety of customizable products.
