Templates #
The Templates tool allows customers to start with professionally designed layouts instead of creating a design from scratch. Templates can include text, photos, artwork, shapes, QR codes, barcodes, and other design elements that customers can easily personalize.
Store administrators can build a library of reusable templates, organize them into categories, and assign them to specific products or Product Bases. Templates help reduce design time while maintaining consistent branding and professional results.
This guide explains how to configure the Templates library and the customization options available in the Design Studio.
What Are Templates? #
A template is a pre-designed layout that customers can customize before placing an order.
A template may contain:
- Editable text
- Placeholder photos
- Artwork
- Logos
- Shapes
- QR Codes
- Barcodes
- Background elements
- Multiple design layers
Customers simply choose a template and replace or edit the elements they want.

Enable the Templates Tool #
The Templates tool can be enabled or disabled for each Product Base.
Navigate to:
Product Base → Design Studio Settings → Tools
Enable Templates to display the Templates panel inside the Design Studio.
If disabled, customers will not be able to browse or load design templates.
Create a Template Library #
The Template Library stores reusable design layouts that customers can use as a starting point.
Templates are ideal for products such as:
- Business cards
- Invitations
- T-shirts
- Mugs
- Phone cases
- Posters
- Stickers
- Labels
- Certificates
- Gift products
A well-organized template library helps customers complete designs more quickly.
Organize Template Categories #
Templates can be grouped into categories to improve navigation.
Examples include:
- Business
- Birthday
- Wedding
- Christmas
- Sports
- School
- Travel
- Baby
- Promotional
- Seasonal
Categories make it easier for customers to find the right design for their needs.
Assign Templates to Products #
Templates can be assigned to specific WooCommerce products or Product Bases.
This allows each product to display only the templates that are relevant to its design and printable area.
For example:
- A business card product displays business card templates.
- A mug product displays mug templates.
- A T-shirt product displays apparel templates.
This keeps the Design Studio organized and improves the customer experience.
Load a Template #
Inside the Design Studio, customers can open the Templates panel and browse the available designs.
Selecting a template automatically loads all supported design elements into the active Design Area.
Depending on the template, this may include:
- Text
- Photos
- Artwork
- Shapes
- QR Codes
- Barcodes
Customers can immediately begin customizing the design.

Editable Template Elements #
Templates are fully customizable.
Depending on how the template was created, customers can edit:
- Text content
- Fonts
- Font size
- Text color
- Artwork colors
- Photos
- Background graphics
- Shapes
- Position
- Rotation
- Layer order
Only editable elements can be modified, allowing administrators to lock branding or fixed design components when necessary.
Change Colors #
Templates that contain editable SVG artwork or design elements allow customers to change colors directly inside the Design Studio.
Customers can:
- Change artwork colors
- Change text colors
- Match product colors
- Apply brand colors
Color changes are displayed instantly in the design preview.
Replace Photos #
Templates often include placeholder images.
Customers can replace these placeholders with their own uploaded photos while preserving the original layout.
This is especially useful for:
- Photo gifts
- Invitations
- Graduation products
- Personalized merchandise
Resize and Position Elements #
After loading a template, customers can adjust individual elements by:
- Resizing
- Moving
- Rotating
- Aligning
- Flipping (when enabled)
These editing tools allow customers to personalize the design while maintaining the overall template structure.
Template Options #
Depending on your Product Base configuration, templates may support the following options:
- Load Template
- Replace Template
- Edit Text
- Replace Photos
- Change Artwork Colors
- Resize Elements
- Rotate Elements
- Duplicate Elements
- Lock Elements (if enabled)
- Delete Editable Elements
Available options depend on the template design and enabled Design Studio features.

Multiple Design Views #
If a product contains multiple printable views, templates can include designs for one or more views.
For example:
- Front
- Back
- Left
- Right
- Inside
- Outside
When a template supports multiple views, the corresponding design is automatically loaded for each configured side.
Template Search #
For large template libraries, customers can quickly find designs using the search feature.
To improve search results:
- Use descriptive template names.
- Organize templates into categories.
- Include relevant keywords.
This makes it easier for customers to discover the right template.
Templates and Pricing #
Templates do not directly affect pricing.
Instead, pricing is calculated based on the design elements contained within the selected template, such as:
- Text
- Artwork
- Photos
- Printed colors
- Printed area
- Number of design elements
- Printable sides
Pricing updates automatically as customers modify the template.
Best Practices #
For the best customer experience:
- Create templates for your most popular products.
- Organize templates into logical categories.
- Keep placeholder text short and easy to replace.
- Use editable SVG artwork whenever possible.
- Lock branding elements that should not be changed.
- Optimize templates for fast loading.
- Test templates on desktop and mobile devices.

Well-designed templates help customers create personalized products more quickly while maintaining consistent branding and high-quality print results.
Troubleshooting #
No templates appear #
Check that:
- The Templates tool is enabled.

- The selected product supports templates.
Template loads incorrectly #
Verify that:
- The template matches the correct Product Base.
- Design Areas are configured properly.

Colors cannot be changed #
Possible causes include:
- The element is locked.
- The artwork is a non-editable PNG image.

Use editable SVG graphics for the best color customization experience.

To create an efficient template library:
- Use reusable layouts for common products.
- Keep templates organized by category.
- Limit unnecessary design elements.
- Test every template before publishing.
