Link to Product Base #
Before a product can be customized, it must be connected to a Product Base. The Product Base contains all of the design configuration, including product images, design areas, colors, sizes, printing settings, pricing rules, and templates.
After linking a WooCommerce product to a Product Base, the product automatically becomes customizable and displays the Customize button on your storefront.
This guide explains how to connect a Product Base to a WooCommerce product and manage existing connections.
Before You Begin #
Before linking a product, make sure you have already:
- Created a Product Base.
- Configured the product design, views, colors, and pricing.
- Saved the Product Base.
Typical workflow:
Create Product Base
↓
Configure Product Base
↓
Create WooCommerce Product
↓
Link Product Base
↓
Publish Product
Without a Product Base, customers cannot open the Design Studio.
Supported Product Type #
Product Designer App currently supports WooCommerce Simple Products.
Product variations, attributes, stock management, and pricing are managed directly by the Product Base, so WooCommerce Variable Products are not required.
Create or Edit a WooCommerce Product #
Navigate to:
WordPress Admin → Products
You can either:
- Create a new WooCommerce product.
- Edit an existing WooCommerce product.
Configure the basic WooCommerce information, such as:
- Product Name
- Description
- Product Image
- Regular Price
- Sale Price (optional)
Then scroll down to the Product Data section.
Open the PDA Product Tab #
Inside the WooCommerce product editor, open the PDA Product tab.
This tab is used to connect the WooCommerce product with a Product Base.
Click Select PDA Product.
A searchable list of available Product Bases will appear.

Select a Product Base #
Search for the Product Base you want to use.
Click the desired Product Base to link it with the WooCommerce product.
After selection, the Product Base is attached to the product.
The WooCommerce product automatically inherits the Product Base configuration, including:
- Product images
- Views
- Design Areas
- Colors
- Sizes
- Printing Types
- Pricing rules
- Product attributes
- Advanced settings
No additional setup is required on the WooCommerce product itself.

Assign Product Templates (Optional) #
If your product uses predefined design templates, you can assign templates after selecting the Product Base.
Inside the PDA Product tab:
- Select the product view.
- Click the desired Design Area.
- Choose a template from the available list.
- Save the product.
Customers will see the assigned template when opening the Design Studio and can customize it before ordering.

Publish the Product #
After linking the Product Base:
- Review the WooCommerce product information.
- Click Publish or Update.
The product is now ready for customization.
Customers visiting the product page will see the Customize button and can launch the Design Studio.
Change the Linked Product Base #
You can replace the linked Product Base at any time.
To do so:
- Edit the WooCommerce product.
- Open the PDA Product tab.
- Click Select PDA Product.
- Choose another Product Base.
- Update the product.
The new Product Base immediately replaces the previous configuration.
Remove a Product Base #
If a product should no longer be customizable:
- Edit the WooCommerce product.
- Open the PDA Product tab.
- Remove the selected Product Base.
- Update the product.
After removing the connection:
- The Customize button is no longer displayed.
- The Design Studio cannot be opened from that product.
- The product behaves as a standard WooCommerce product.
Manage Connected Products #
You can easily identify WooCommerce products that are linked to Product Bases.
Products connected to Product Designer App display a design indicator in the WooCommerce product list, making it easy to distinguish customizable products from standard products.
To manage connected products:
- Edit the WooCommerce product to change its Product Base.
- Assign or remove design templates.
- Update product pricing or descriptions.
- Publish or unpublish the product as needed.
The Product Base itself can also be edited at any time. Changes made to the Product Base are automatically reflected across all WooCommerce products that use it.

Verify the Connection #
After publishing the WooCommerce product:
- Open the product page on your website.
- Confirm that the Customize button is displayed.
- Click Customize.
- Verify that the Design Studio loads the correct Product Base.
- Check that colors, views, pricing, templates, and resources load correctly.
If everything appears as expected, the connection has been completed successfully.
Troubleshooting #
Product Base cannot be selected #
Check that:
- The Product Base has been created.
- The Product Base has been saved.
- Product Designer App is activated.
Customize button does not appear #
Verify that:
- A Product Base is linked to the WooCommerce product.
- The product is published.
- Customize Button is enabled in Product Designer App settings.
- WooCommerce is active.
Wrong Product Base loads #
This usually means the WooCommerce product is linked to a different Product Base.
Open the PDA Product tab and verify the selected Product Base.
Best Practices #
For the best results:
- Create and fully configure the Product Base before linking it to WooCommerce.
- Use one Product Base for products with the same design configuration.
- Assign templates only after the Product Base has been linked.
- Test every connected product before publishing.
- Verify that the Customize button opens the correct Design Studio.
- Keep Product Base settings updated whenever product images, pricing, or design areas change.
Linking a Product Base to a WooCommerce product is the final step that transforms a standard product into a fully customizable product, allowing customers to personalize their designs directly within the Design Studio.
