Pricing Overview #
Product Designer App provides a flexible pricing system that allows you to charge customers based on how they customize a product.
Whether you offer simple one-sided printing or complex products with multiple printable areas, colors, sizes, components, and quantity discounts, the pricing engine automatically calculates the final customization cost during the design process.
This guide explains how pricing works, the available pricing methods, and how different pricing rules work together.
How Pricing Works #
The final price of a customizable product is generally calculated using two parts:
Final Product Price = WooCommerce Product Price + Product Base Discount + Customization Price
- WooCommerce Product Price is the base selling price of the product.
- Product Base Discount is the discount based on quantity.
- Customization Price is calculated by Product Designer App based on your pricing configuration and element price (artwork extra price).
For example:
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Base Product | $20.00 |
| Front Printing | $5.00 |
| Back Printing | $3.00 |
| Total | $28.00 |
As customers customize the product, Product Designer App automatically recalculates the total price in real time.

Pricing Components #
Product Designer App supports several pricing methods that can be used independently or combined.
Printing Types #
A Printing Type defines how printing costs are calculated.
Examples include:
- DTG Printing
- DTF Printing
- Screen Printing
- Sublimation
- UV Printing
- Embroidery
- Laser Engraving
Each Printing Type can use different pricing rules.
Side Pricing #
Charge customers according to the printable sides they customize.
Example:
| Printed Side | Price |
| 1 side (Front or Back) | $5.00 |
| 2 side (Front and Back) | $8.00 |
| 3 side (Front, Back and Left) | $9.00 |
This pricing model is commonly used for apparel and products with multiple printable surfaces.
Color Pricing #
Some printing methods charge based on the number of print colors.
Example:
| Colors | Price |
| 1 Color | $2.00 |
| 2 Colors | $3.50 |
| Full Color | $6.00 |
This is particularly useful for traditional screen printing workflows.
Size Pricing #
Pricing can also depend on the selected product size.
Example:
| Size | Additional Cost |
| Small | $0 |
| Medium | $0 |
| Large | +$2 |
| XL | +$4 |
Size pricing may be managed through Product Base variations (Attributes), Printing Types, or other pricing rules depending on your configuration.
Quantity Pricing #
Offer lower printing costs for larger orders.
Example:
| Quantity | Price per Item |
| 1–9 | $5.00 |
| 10–49 | $4.50 |
| 50–99 | $4.00 |
| 100+ | $3.50 |
Quantity pricing is useful for wholesale and bulk printing.
Combining Pricing Rules #
Pricing rules can be combined to support complex production requirements.
Example:
Base Product Price + Fees Printing (Print sizes, colors, sides) + Large Size Surcharge + Quantity Discount
Final example:
| Item | Price |
| Base Product | $20.00 |
| 2 sides (Front + Back Print with sizes) | $5.00 |
| 2 sides (Front + Back Print with colors) | $3.00 |
| XL Size | +$2.00 |
| Quantity Discount | -$1.00 |
| Final Price | $29.00 |
The plugin automatically recalculates the price whenever customers change their customization.
Real-Time Price Updates #
As customers interact with the Design Studio, pricing updates instantly.
Typical actions that trigger recalculation include:
- Selecting another Printing Type
- Designing an additional side
- Changing product size
- Selecting another product color
- Adding printable components
- Changing quantity
- Editing product options
This allows customers to see the cost of their customization before checkout.
Pricing and WooCommerce #
Product Designer App works together with WooCommerce pricing.
WooCommerce manages:
- Base product price
- Sale price
- Taxes
- Coupons
- Shipping costs
Product Designer App manages:
- Printing costs
- Customization costs
- Side pricing
- Color pricing
- Quantity pricing
Both systems work together to calculate the final order total.
Recommended Pricing Strategy #
For most stores, the following pricing structure is recommended:
| Pricing Component | Recommended Source |
| Base Product Price | WooCommerce |
| Product Variations | Product Designer App |
| Inventory | Product Designer App |
| Printing Costs | Product Designer App |
| Side Pricing | Product Designer App |
| Quantity Discounts | Product Designer App |
Keeping responsibilities separated makes pricing easier to maintain and reduces the risk of duplicate charges.
Best Practices #
To create a reliable pricing system:
- Keep pricing rules as simple as possible.
- Use descriptive Printing Type names.
- Match printable sides with your product Views.
- Avoid charging the same option in multiple places.
- Test every pricing combination before publishing.
- Review prices after updating products or Printing Types.
- Keep pricing consistent across similar products.
- Update prices whenever production costs change.
Common Pricing Issues #
The Price Does Not Update #
Check that:
- A Printing Type is assigned to the product.
- Pricing rules have been configured.
- The Product Base is connected to the WooCommerce product.
- The product has been saved after editing.
The Price Is Incorrect #
Verify that:
- The WooCommerce base price is correct.
- Printing Type pricing is correct.
- Quantity rules are configured properly.
- Side pricing matches the printable Views.
- No pricing rule is applied twice.
Customers Are Charged Twice #
Duplicate pricing usually occurs when the same surcharge is configured in both WooCommerce and Product Designer App.
Review:
- Product Base variation prices
- Product options
- Printing Type pricing
- Quantity pricing
Ensure each price adjustment is configured in only one place unless the combined charge is intentional.
Pricing Checklist #
Before publishing a product, confirm that:
- The WooCommerce base price is correct.
- A Printing Type is assigned.
- All printable sides have pricing.
- Size and color pricing are correct.
- Quantity discounts work as expected.
- Real-time price updates function correctly.
- Cart and checkout totals match the Design Studio.
- Test orders calculate the correct final price.
